Creating Goals

After completing your small business plan (download workbook 1 for help with this),

separate your ideas into attainable goals.

1-month goals:

For example, research 15 creatives that have business like what you hope to have.

Highlight what they have done successfully. What might you like to emulate?

OR create a business card trying to define your brand identity. What will your palette be? Choose two fonts, etc.

 1.

2.

3.

3-months goals:

For example, define your niche audience. Be as specific as you can here.

The narrower your audience, the clearer your vision will be.

Find people in your community that fit that niche and make a plan to meet them.

A networking meeting, a coffee date, an art opening?

 1.

2.

3.

6-months goals:

For example, find 3 friends that support your idea and ask them to be trial clients for a tiny fee (a coffee, $50, a trade).

Try out your product and process to see if it is viable. My husband calls this the proof-of-concept stage.

Topic #1

Writing a Small Business Plan

Do a complete brain dump of what exactly at this very moment you envision your business to be.

Write as fast as you can and don’t edit yourself. Don’t judge your ideas yet. Put them all out there.

Define your ideal client. Be extremely specific. The more specific, the clearer your brand will be.

We will create a brand story later! You can edit and delete ideas that don’t fit after you put down every idea you can.

Brainstorm for 10 minutes here:

Creating Goals

After 10 minutes creating your brainstorm, separate your ideas into attainable goals.

1-month goals:

For example, research 15 creatives that have business like what you hope to have.

Highlight what they have done successfully. What might you like to emulate?

Have you ever thought it would be nice to have someone to help you along on this journey?

Jennifer started this workshop series after a fun lunch with the president of the Plano Art Association. The discussion revolved around what do artists want to learn in school? What do creatives want to know? The quick answer was how to make money doing what they love.

After talking with other creatives that want to know how others achieved success, the Arts Biz Lecture Workshop series was created. After creating the series, Jennifer started thinking about how fun it has been to help her college students over the years with all of their ideas. But, there just isn’t ever enough time in the studio to create work AND brainstorm a business into a success story. In comes the workbook series.
